EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Twenty minutes from my house. In fact, I go there once a month to the MFA feed store. And I go there a lot more in my tractor trailer for work.

Small world. I've never been there. I'd like to go see where he was born, but it probably doesnt exist any longer...130 years ago.

@Pensmaster
Do you know what drop ceiling panels were made of 30-40 years ago?
We were discussing the dust & falling particles being created from an ongoing ceiling repair, & it occurred to me that my 45 year old drop ceiling panels may have been made using asbestos.

The spray ceilings that I used to spray stopped using asbestos in late 70’s. It’s possible they are ok. Do you have a manufacture name. If it’s was 40 years ago. 45 may not be.
No name; BIL got them from a building that the company he was working for was remodeling, or reconfiguring.
We probably installed it here in '74; no telling how old it was then, but it was in good shape & not stained in any way. We still have a 5' stack of it that we didn't use.

I haven't been around in three or four years, I still recognize some names. I didn't post enough for you guys to remember me, but I enjoyed following everyone. I stopped hatching and everything to do with chickens for three or so years. Now I am back at the old family farm and ready to start back up. I am going to try to rehab an old shed in the back....it is 10' by 16'. It's sinking in the back and needs jacked up, the doors need replaced as well as about half of the front part of the floor. It doesn't have windows...the only good thing is the roof is not leaking. Wondering if I would be better off starting from scracth? Since the weather is so muddy and nasty, I have thought about hatching just for the fun of it. I hatched in my studio apartment (hence my name) a few times and the chicks were always easy to sell pretty quick. As for the chickens I would like to keep again, I've always had good luck with the buff orps. Now I just need to find someone to help me jack up this old barn! Kids these days balk at getting dirty :barnie

I found a hatchery an hour away from me that you can buy hatching eggs from, only on Tuesdays by appointment only. You can't choose want breeds you want, but they are only seven dollars a dozen! I just might make an appointment for the Tuesday and get about three dozen. It would keep me busy for a few weeks while I plan out this new coop. My only worry would be selling the day old chicks, I have always hatched silkies or EEs in the past, the chicks always sold fast. Not sure how surprise chicks would sell:hmm

I remember you! Hahaha. Just jump back in. You’ll have to decide whether to fix or build new. However, you have a structure to start with so maybe a little fixing up is all you need to do. Welcome back.
