I'd definitely have some type of backup power.

I have 2 smaller generators that if put together may run most of house. Will need a 12000 watt to do it. Keeping everything running here was/is a lot of work.

I have found that sellotape works a dream and is so simple to use.

I haven't tried it. What I like about the liquid skin is that it has antiseptic properties and the chicks have no trouble hatching regardless of where they pip.
I once dropped an egg on the floor. It had cracks over 2/3 of the shell and was mostly covered in the liquid skin. I was surprised to wake one morning and the chick was already out.
