EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Well, it's the evening of day 20 for my hatch, and I don't think it will go well! I had great development and movement through day 14. But when I candled on day 18, it looked like development had stalled, though there was still movement in all but one. I couldn't resist taking a careful peek again tonight. Air cells were all good, but the embryos definitely don't fill up their space, and only one of the three I checked had any movement, though it had pipped internally. My suspicion is that my temps were low. I need a different thermometer setup. But I've warned the kids that this was a crapshoot, and I have more set away for another try. I'll up the temps this time and see if that helps. Also...this is the first time I haven't set my eggs according to the moon. :p My grandpa was from backcountry Kentucky people, and they swore by that system, lol. I tell myself it's silly, but...:idunno:old

I just did a quick search on late embryo deaths, and one of the causes is chilled eggs. I collected most of these when they were very cold--near to freezing. Now I am wondering if the ones that make it will be the ones I collected before getting so cold?

If there is no movement even when I tap on the shells, how bad of a sign is that? (I sound like such a complete noob, lol. So much for thinking I was getting experienced, hahaha!)

Anything new? I just bartered for 20 dozen eggs, go me.... lol
Anyone ever do the glassing method or the Hyd lime method for long term storage?
It is so cool to see some colored eggs again! and she sent all sorta colors!!
Just can't stay away from chickens, huh! ?
Welcome home.:):)

I have an assisted hatch chick that has a very small amount of yolk sticking out of its umbilicus. It's about the size of a pea, or a bit smaller. Should I leave it alone or put it in a cup? It's absorbing as I type....
