We tend to use those terms interchangeably.Boars=domesticated
Hogs=wild?
Wild hogs are also known as wild boars. Wild feral pigs here have their origin in the Eurasian Wild Boar. On a smaller scale, sometimes domestic pigs escape and become feral.
On the following page you can see how the wild boars range is increasing dramatically.

And the history that explains interbreeding with domestics.

We define them as Boars=adult male pig, barrow=immature male that has been castrated. Sow is an adult female and a gilt is technically a female pig under 6 months of age but is also referred to as any female that has yet to be bred.
Though castration is usually done at 7 days of age, we used to wait till 2 weeks of age to castrate the male piglets. Partly because the farm was 100 miles from our house Sometimes one would get past that age. I once had to wrestle a 50lb. pig to get it done.
