EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Ohhhh.
I found a quail that had gotten caught between the wall and hiding box. Wanna bet I could have saved it if I’d only walked over there to talk to them yesterday?

I managed to candle my broodies' eggs today. One has 6 that look to be about day 17, and one has 2 that look about day 8.

Question: They are both in the main coop. Would I be able to move either of them at this point?

It impaled itself on the chain link fence when it fell out of a tree. Caught it in the guts, so there was nothing else I could for it. :(
We cleaned up a pile of small limbs we'd been saving for the fire pit so I could mow the long grass that had grown up in & around it. I got the grass mowed down, & the next day saw a 4' black rat snake making it's way across a slope. It had what appeared to be a fresh slice wound along it's back that looked to be the result of an encounter with a mower blade. Didn't seem to be in any particular distress, so the slice must not have been too bad.

Not a fan of snakes at all, but they keep the rodents down, so I leave them alone unless they get into the house, which happens all too often.

Fortunately snakes don’t or haven’t come inside here. I did find a King snake at the pond yesterday while cleaning up cattails. Since most snakes here are rattlers and Kings resemble rattlers it can really get to me when I come across a King.

Ok so this is my first time hatching shipped eggs and so far its been a bit of a mess. Eggs arrived ok but then my incubator went haywire..... so fast forward to today and I have 4 healthy embryos on day 17. But they are ALL saddled. I took these pics on day 15 but I am hoping to get an idea if these are on track, too big, or too small. I keep going back and forth and am just confused as heck now.
