EE egg quality question?

I am new to chickens and looking into different breeds that I would like to have. My neighbor has a few EE and they lay blue and green eggs. He stated that once you get over the novelty of the different colors the eggs are not as good as his other breeds. Thick mucous membrane on the inside of the shell, I forgot what he called it.

I have not seen any threads about this. Any experiences you have?

I think green/blue eggs are the exact same as all others, with a different shell pigment.

I don't find any difference in the green or blue eggs from my EE's or the brown eggs from my RIR's or GLW's. I sell my extra eggs and people have yet to tire of the EE eggs.

yeah.. I dont see a difference either, other than shell color.. although if your selling them.. people LOVE to buy EE eggs

Hi,

I have two EE's and their eggs are just fine, perhaps even better than some of the others as far as quality of the shell is concerned. I feel the thick membrane on the inside is an indication of a higher quality egg, as I find my shells and inner membranes are harder to break than supermarket eggs, and I know my eggs are fresher and my hens are well fed. Hope this helps!

Personally I find the blue and green eggs taste better. I know it sounds weird, but I don't like the brown eggs as well. Different breeds of cattle and goats have different tasting milk and even meat, so why not eggs? Other than pretty colour and improved taste I don't see any difference between 'em.

Those were the responses I was hoping to here. I have only seen their eggs online and it looks really neat.

I see no difference between my EE eggs and others other than color. I think they taste just the same.

Now, I had gotten a free dozen eggs at the store a few weeks ago, and, well, free eggs... besides, we've been selling out of eggs and I get precious few to eat, only checks and smalls... but, YUCK! I ended up baking with them. No one would eat them scrambled. They looked like they weren't even eggs, they were so pale.

Have fun with your EEs. They come in such fun colors, and you never quite know what they will look like as adults. I love surprises. For instance, all the chicks I got last year ended up some form of black/brown/partridge but this year I have lots of reds and blues and one that has a gold head and a black body. And yet, as chicks, they all looked the same.

Does your neighbor have any chickens other than EE's? If all they have have is EE's maybe it's the difference between backyard eggs and store bought eggs that's weird to them and not the fact that it's an EE egg.

Hmmm..... are EE is our best layer and the ones that we find to be the tastiest with the firmest and most orange yolks! Happy egg eating.
