EE Laying brown eggs???

I have seen chickens go in and sit in the nest box for awhile and come out and no eggs. I decided to sit in the coop one morning with a cup of coffee and a cushion pad and watched each girl lay their eggs. I loved knowing who laid what egg. Some of the girls take awhile to lay so you can take a book out there with you.

You never did mention how old your chickens were. I have 5 EE's laying right now and non of them lay brown eggs although once in awhile you do get one that lays brown eggs. Your EE's might not have started laying eggs yet.

For three days, I had a RIR sitting in one of the nest boxes.... I would sit in the run----waiting to get her egg....No egg and once she even did the egg song! My EE are 22 weeks old and haven't started to lay yet... But they will sit in the nest box (one where I never find an egg) during the day--- So, maybe your girl was just checking out the nest.... How old are your EE??

LOL I tried sitting in on my girls and the longer I set there the longer the held out, so I went in for coffee and go figure aabout 5 of the girls decided to take the oppertunity to lay while I was gone! tricky little girls aren't they!! LOLOL go figure.

What do you mean about the food coloring on there vent? and how often do you have to do this? Do you just do this to suspected layer to confirm that they are the layers? of a particular egg? Sorry still just learning all this stuff. Thanks Sandy

When you put food coloring on the vent some will come off on the egg when they lay it. If your not sure which chicken is laying try a different color on each chicken.

good evening ya'll,
sorry to say but as EE's are mixed breeds they can and will lay every color imaginable, except the one you want. I love my babies, but, of the 12 EE's I have only 2 lay blue-green, 1 lays sky blue, 1 lays olive green and the 8 lay anywhere from cream to brownish pink. The only true blue lay everytime is the Aracauna and I have not found them anywhere but at a breeders. And I am not able to find the breeders here, or at least not close to me. So to be honest , with hatchery birds you can't be positive they will lay blue or blue-green eggs.
