EE near laying?

Hi all, one of my 20 week old EE pullets squatted yesterday when I went to pet her. I assumed she was not near laying age because she did not look it to me otherwise. Can you tell by the face with EE's? My red sex links were easy to tell because they squatted and their faces were very red. Any other signs? Thank you

I have some EEs that are approaching the 20 week mark. Those pea combs are so small, they don't put out much of a red flag, pun intended.

So, what I do to track their progress toward point of lay is to measure their pelvic bones, the two knobs protruding on each side of the vent, with two fingers placed side by side between the knobs. When my two fingers finally fit, they will be very close to laying.

Thank you, I will try this!

I was feeling that way too. She squatted upon being pet again this morning. She does not squat every time I pet, maybe once or twice a day..but definitely a squat. I'm going to try the pelvic exam today.
I had an EE once, she never got brilliantly red or plump in the comb.
Laid like gangbusters tho, she was EE over Amberlink.
