Bunny turns 6mo old today... Happy 1/2 yr Hatchday!!!
When purchased, we were told she will lay colored eggs, nothing yet, unless her color eggs is light brown like the others..
So my question is, EE or Ameraucana?
Whats the difference between the two?
She is camera shy but I think I got enough clear angles for you to decide.. Thanks

EE I think, because of the green spotty legs and no color on the tail, though she looks pretty wheaten so maybe not.

The difference is EEs are a crossbreed or a landrace while Ameraucanas are a recognized breed.
It's a little like buying a poodle, VS buying a poodle mix like a cockapoo. Some traits pass down, some don't. Like you KNOW that a poodle will be about X size, with Y fur type and probably a no-shed/low shed dog, right? But only SOME cockapoos meet that description.

Because they're a mixed breed, EEs often lay non-blue/green eggs, and don't meet other breed standard requirements. Like some have single combs, some have no beards and muffs, and some (like this bird) have green or yellow legs instead of slate grey/black (the only acceptable color for ameraucanas) etc.

So it's possible you have a very poorly bred ameraucana. I have one kinda like this. But it's more likely to be an easter egger. Where'd you get it from?

You could isolate her for a day or three and see what color she's laying.

Lovely Easter Egger. :)

You have been given a wonderful explanation above as to the differences between EEs and true Ameraucanas. :thumbsup

I must say, she looks nothing like my Wheaten girl....but to be fair, I've never seen a poorly bred Wheaten AM. :D

Rainey, at 6mo that's 100% a hen. No way that's a boy of any sort.

@Alexandra33 , I should rephrase, a blue wheaten. They tend to be lighter. Here's a few pictures of what they can look like;

These two are from some I bought from an APA and multiple club registered breeder. One of these hens lays brown eggs. Hence - poorly bred.
Here's a couple pictures from other places;

They're all close to the bird pictured, but not close enough. The green legs are pretty tell-tale and the whiter tail. Plus some lacing around the neck that seems out of place.

Oh crap. I’m sure you’re right. My screen is broken on my phone except for right down the middle. l could see the legs clear in all the pictures, not so much everything else. Prolly should have kept my mouth shut but I got 6 hours left on my shift....

Ah, thanks for the clarification. :) I now see why you took note of the resemblance. Yours are simply stunning. :love

Still, it would be nice to know where OP obtained this lovely bird, since Blue Wheaten AMs don't appear to be terribly commonplace.
