EE or Ameraucana?

And what if it looks like an Ameraucana, how will you know it's Mum and Dad weren't both Ameraucana, but that the Mum was but the Dad wasn't? I mean how you gonna know great granddad wasn't an Ameraucana?

Very legit question. Really, Tim, the way you'd know, not being aware of its actual lineage, if it appeared to be an accepted color with proper leg color, body type, etc., would be to breed them and see if they breed true, I'd think. Not an expert here, by any means, though.

Well, yes and no. You are correc that an Ameraucana has to be a specific "color" to be an Ameraucana. But there is a whole lot more to it than that. You are incorrect in that "someone" has decided it. Rather there was an exhaustive process that many people labored intensely at and for quite some time to get the APA and the ABA to accept them.

You are also incorrect in the human analogy to birds. It would be more correct to look at dogs just as an example. A Dalmatian is a Dalmatian partially because it is white with Black Spots. An Irish Setter is different than a Gordon Setter which is different than a English Setter although they are all Setters. And so on.

If there is some other variety of Ameraucana you would like to see accepted by the APA and ABA, then I encourage you wholeheartedly to go for it. There is a specific means by which both of those organizations have set forth which allows for just such a thing.

God Bless,

I hope I didn't come off sarcastic, I don't mean to but many of us have been snookered due to our ignorance. And I can be a little slow on the uptake, I'll admit. Further if I was to get some I'm not up to telling a lie and wouldn't sleep at night if I did, so I have to be sure. Point being I'm not likely to purchase hatcher stock again.
Thanks for being so patient.
