I have a lot of cochins, silkies, and Araucanas. So they all get mixed up in chicks along with a few turken mixes. Someone told me today that an auracana mix will lay the colored eggs if it has dark feet. True or false? That would give me an idea of which ones to keep or sell.

I meant mixed breed chicks that are half EE, aracana, americana or whatever you want to call them. They said only the ones with dark legs will lay the colorful eggs?

No- I think they can have greenish legs too. Not 100% sure about the leg thing- I just know they have to carry the oclored egg gene. Birds can be 1/4 (maybe less) aracauna and still lay colored eggs.

The leg color has nothing to do with it. Only the genes. I have an EE that lays a very, huge white egg and two others that lay green eggs. They all have the same color of legs.

I would be interested to hear an educated opinion on this. I have one mixed breed pullet that has dark slate colored legs, and am hoping that she is an EE, although she shows no other signs of EE-ness. . . . will be a month or more before she starts to lay, however, so I'm waiting to see. . . .

I always thought the green legged ones would lay colored eggs. I have 5 crosses (their father was Ameraucana and mother was golden comet) and I'm hoping for colorful eggs out of the. I also have two 16 week old "mutt" pullets-one has green legs and kind of looks like she could have some EE in her, and the other one has slate colored legs, and is almost solid black with a black beak and black comb...

I believe that the blue egg gene is closely related to the pea comb gene. If you want to know if they will lay blue or green eggs, just check out the comb. And I'm 99% sure that leg color has nothing to do with egg color.
