EE - won't leave the coop - laying, sick, or traumatized?

My EEer did the exact same thing. She would either stay up on the roost in the coop or would immediately get up on the roost in the pen. She HATED the rooster. She was able to keep herself away from him for a few weeks. We would take her out of the pen when we were home and let her free range. Eventually she overcame her shyness and still does not like him, but can hold her own.

Oh thanks Rocky Top - that sounds EXACTLY like my girl. the others seem to tolerate his advances, but she doesn't like it and really seems to be avoiding him. Hmm, maybe that IS what is going on.

I bet your Easter Egger is going through what mine did. We thought she was sick also, but as soon as we let her out by herself, she would turn into a different chicken. Keep us posted.

Well, when I got home last night she was the first one out of the run. She was absolutely fine until a few hours later when I saw the rooster chasing her across the yard. After that she holed herself up in the coop again and didn't come out. He must leave her alone in there. So there is nothing really wrong with her. I just have a rooster who doesn't believe that no means no. I hope they work things out. I feel bad having her trapped in the run with him, but there has been a coyote spotted wandering the neighborhood so I don't want them out when I'm not home.
