I guess I could post this on "feeding and watering your flock" but this wasn't my doing!

I let my girls out to free range in the evenings. Well, spring is here and lots of peeping baby birds up in trees...
My girls are wandering around and suddenly they begin playing a fast and furious game of keep away. Being curious as to what is causing all the excitement I manage to catch up with them just in time to see one of the EEs swallow a hatchling that fell out of it's nest... probably a pigeon or dove.

My 9 year old son, who adores the girls, was TOTALLY disgusted!

Poor chick

That would scar me. That'd bird be gone, just me. Everytime I would look at her I'd see the chick.

Not funny, or fun to witness, but a real glimpse of nature at work. Sorry your son had to see it, try to explain to him. Poor guy!

Yep, that is nature at work. Chickens will eat what is available, and sometimes it is just yuckky.

Is the EE old enough to produce eggs? (Gulp!)

Oh yeah, they will eat anything! Mine ate a baby bird last spring AND they always have mice! I managed to save a poor baby snake, but warned him not to come back or he would be a quick meal!
