Eeekkkk.. HELP... Injury or Disease.. Pics attached

I'ts Pox..Like Cynthia said nothing really you can do for this particular bird other than appling Iodine, black Shoe Polish or daub a Magic Marker on the sores to help them dry. Vitamins would be helpful also..You can vaccinate the others to stop any other outbreaks..or let nature take its course and it will slowly go through your flock till whatever bird is going to gets it, and everything will be fine in a month or two unless complicated with the wet form(inside mouth and throat)

If it were me I would vaccinate all the others that are not showing any symptoms..And now that its on your yard and the mosquitos can winter over, You might want to think about vaccinating all hatchlings and any other birds you bring in..

pine grove...the pox is spread by mosquitos??..or maybe i mis-understood your post..sorry if i did...thanks for any info..Wendy

MAN_this would worry me if I awoke to find that--thanks for sharing...(ya'll really keep me informed!)

Besides vaccinations-is there any preventive measure to help not have this happen??

The rains have come in strong here lately--and with that, of course mosquitoes too!

~Sure hope your pox problems go away soon!!

Yes mainly mosquitos, and a few other biting insects..can be airborne also from dust and dander from the dried scabs, and several other means...shoes,clothing,or going to the feed store and buying the bag of feed that Billy Bob(with the infected chickens) leaned up against while running his mouth with the owner,, now the virus is at your house just waiting for an opportunity..Oh.. The virus can live years in the dried scabs, dust and dander..thats why I personally feel vaccinating every year after an outbreak is so important......

it is spread by mosquitoes but also thru the water and feed dishes which is why it is imperative to separate. Get everything dry and apply iodine to the lesions (as you want them to dry out).

Mosquitoes are really bad here too especially with all the rain we have been having. About these vaccinations... with what?? we dont have a vet here that deals with chickens
