Eek!! Large Bird of Prey!!

Thanks everyone. I wish I could show the other ones, but I do enough stuff my DH tells me not to, so I am not going to argue with him about this also.
We see quite a few of them eating roadkill on the side of the road. We have saw them fishing also. Could they pick up a chicken?? oh ya, absolutely no doubt in my mind. As was said, there are some bird species that will try attacking a large bird of prey when it comes to close to them. They do try to drive them off, sometimes it works.

Bald Eagles are usually more interested in carrion than they are chickens.
That first picture looks like a buzzard to me.
But the one with all the crows and the bald eagle is cool.
congratulate your husband for the good pics! I am sure the others are awesome.

is a raven different from a crow? i thought it was just "location" on weather it was crow or raven,,,hehe

Good job scaring away the eagle..sometimes being mildly posessed is o.k. We had out first flying predator today, a turkey vulture. My 2 girls ran and hid under my rose hip bushes. I didn't see the vulture at first so I couldn't figure out what they were doing, I did my own posessed dance...so it's ok.

We get tons of turkey vultures flying back and forth over our property. They roost in the back woods at night. One way to tell them on the wing is that they soar with their wings above horizontal, like a flat V shape, and their wings form "fingers" at the ends.

The chickens know the difference somehow. A hawk landed in the yard yesterday and there was lots of chicken swearing going on. They completely ignore the vultures. Nature is a wonderful thing!
