So I am under the impression that ANY chicken of ANY breed that lays colored eggs is an Easter Egger... including Ameraucanas, Legbars, etc.

So all Ameraucanas are Easter Eggers but not all Easter Eggers are Ameraucanas ;)
I don’t think so...whiting true blues lay well...true blue lol. So do cream legbars.
I’m thinking the “labradoodle” example explains it well.
Still loving my EE!! Call em what ever you want...just don’t call em ~Dinner

hmm... I'm just thinking EE is the broader term that encompasses many different kinds of chickens that lay colorful eggs, since we are going with dog analogies, in the same way that sporting breeds/dogs is a broader term that encompasses a variety of breeds of dogs with shared characteristics.

Yes...(my head hurts now)
I can agree with that.
I can’t wait till AKC acknowledges “Chiweenie’s” as a breed. But right about now the Chihuahua & Dachshund people are having none of that!
*couldnt help myself*

I think it has to get to a point where instead of breeding A x B = AB you are breeding AB x AB = AB offspring which takes time and generations to get a good gene pool without inbreeding etc. and get the breed standard dialed in because you aren't bringing in lots of outside lines either.

I've also been reading along and haven't answered yet.
I also believe that EEs are more of a type than a breed, but I don't think that 'type' includes the breeds that make colored eggs. I've been with the understanding that an Easter Egger was a mutt or cross that lays colored eggs, and would include Olive Eggers. I've understood it that way, simply because you can have anything in the mix, and if it lays a colored egg, bam... easter egger. And not everybody uses Ameraucana blood to get the blue gene. I've seen people use Legbars.

For EE to be a breed, a group of somebodies will have to nail down what exactly is in that mix, what comb type it needs to have, leg colors... etc. Look at the previous poster who has Wyandotte mixed in her EE...
