I'm new to this so I can't say one way or the other but I can tell you that my BA looked like a roo for quite a few weeks because she was all tail feathers and quite red in the face. Once her other feathers grew in she looked much more hen like.

I love the quizzical looks that EEs have

Both pullets..you still have a pretty long wait for some eggs. For the most part EE's don't lay young 6-8 months on most depending on the cross they are.

I thought the same thing but all 4 of my EE's where the first to start laying at 18-20 weeks, so I guess you never know. I now get 4 beautiful bluish green eggs everyday.

Both are pullets

. Cutie looks exactly like my EE-roo/RIR--hen crosses. Mine are around the same age as Cutie and she looks just like my pullets. I have some cockerels from the same parents (and same age) and they already have long tails, large comb and wattles. Daisy is also a girl. My EE's started laying a bit later than some of the other breeds but if Cutie has RIR in her than that may influence how soon she starts to lay. I can't wait to see what color the eggs will be from my crosses!!

Thanks for all the guesses!

I was guessing we'd know for sure by September/October.

Daisy definitely has a quizzical look about her...and she's the fastest one in the bunch.

Hubby built some nesting boxes on Friday evening. Saturday afternoon, she gave us our first egg!

Congrats on the egg and even more congrats on the pullets, since you said you can't have roosters. One of our all-time favorite chickens was Lady, she was a RIR/Auracana cross. She laid lovely big brown eggs for several years. She was very tame and looked similar, but had muffs and yellow legs. I've always suspected the Auracana mother was really an EE, but no one called them that so many years ago.
