EE's or Ameraucanas? 5 days old....all different!

I bought my chicks from a woman who breeds "Ameraucanas"....and I know that is a term used loosely with this breed right now as I am finding that most of them are EE's.
Please keep in mind that at this point it doesnt matter to me...I am in love with each and every one of them Curious on opinions as well as any opinions on whether I may have anything other than females?
I grew up raising chickens and this is my first go at it again in nearly 25 years...doing it for my young girls....every kid should have chickens

do you know were her stock came from? also what colors she has and if they are kept in their own breeding pens by their color?

I know she only had one Roo that she breeds, and a total of 12 females. ...has been breeding and selling for about 10 years...not sure where she got her starter stock from. She pens them to breed only but they are mixed with others between clutches....so Im sure there are some mutts that may be thown in the mix too Some of her other breeds are Buff brahma and Jersey Giants and Silver Wyandottes. Just curious!

Aww, they're so cute. They are absolutely a bunch of wittle EEs. The fact that they are all different looking is your first indicator. A real Ameraucana breeder would have multiple flocks divided strictly by color, as the standard of perfection is REALLY picky.

So, for instance, if you talked to the lady and she said:

"Oh, well I breed for Lavenders and Wheatens, which color would you like?"

She's more likely a legitimate breeder than someone who says "Oh, I just stick em all in a pen together and let them go at it, I can't tell you what color you'll get".

Most legitimate breeders are hobby geneticists who can go on at length about their careful control of the genetics of their flock. And that is true for all breeds of chickens.

Honestly, Its kind of funny...the lady went on and on about how many people breed EE's and she breeds Ameraunas I was chuckling inside to myself because upon doing research on the breeds I wanted, I was certain that I would get an EE while looking for Ameracanas....she is an obvious back yard breeder and chicks and hens were everywhere !

Im curious about what they may feather out like? Wondering if anyone has any EE's that looked like any of my babies here and what they may look like older...especially the dark chick...sticks out like a sore thunb woth all the yellows and chipmunk colorings....she has taken quite a liking to me , but I love them all I know Ill know soon enough but curiosity is killing the cat!

If you have to ask, they're EE's. If they come in various colors, they're EE's. If they come from a hatchery or feedstore, they're EE's. Those are three big rules when telling the two apart. No matter what feedstores, etc say - They're all EE's.


They are too young to sex though, but EE's can be sexed by color at 6+ weeks old. Post photos of them at that age and I and several other members here can sex them for ya by their color.

They need to be well feathered though.

I cant wait either! I keep looking for transformation pics...the other three look similar but the dark one is so different!

Agreed Funny to me that she was so defensive though in her breeding...doenst matter to me, I bought them anyway and LOVE then!
