Egg 3 is dead..Graphic photos

Have you been talking to your egg?? It can encourage them. Just make sure you are around when the little one decides its time to unzip..they can sometimes by very speedy when it gets that far along.

Not yet I havent, but I did scream at the dogs this morning at 4.30 to SHUT UP, YOU WILL WAKE THE EGG UP. A truck with a yellow flashing light stopped outside the house and all 5 dogs lit up...then they decided to have choir practise and sounded like the local Tabernacle Choir. Its a good job I dont have neighbors. I got up twice last night to see if it had pipped and to check my humidity. I wrapped a fleece round the bator and left it open round the vent...stayed at 78 humidity and 99 temp so I am happy with that. I sat and watched for about 10 mins last night before bed and saw it rock a few times...now that was cool.

Thanks for reminding me about the rocking... I had already forgotten how much I loved seeing that. After trying to hatch in the main incubator - I havent seen it in a while. I used to have the hatcher beside my bed so I could watch all of that. I might have to do my last lot due in three weeks in the hova again so I can have one last hatch beside my bed before I turn off the incubator for a few months.

Honestly I wouldn't even do that with a fleece, my humidity was at 75-85%, and when they start hatching and the moisture from the egg comes out with the duckling the humidity sky rockets! I wouldn't take the chance with the fleece, I'd shut and lid and leave it shut so no moisture can be lost or absorbed into the blanket.

I havent lifted the lid, during the day the house sometimes gets cold with the dogs going in and out. Plus with us walking by and such, so the blanket just keeps the drafts off the bator. Ive done it a few times and its worked good for me and keeps my temps and humidity stable.
I think with my next batch I putin im going to do it down in the spare room, it stays warmer down there and wont get the human and dog traffic going by it all the time.

Oh, ok! I didn't know I just remember my excitement along with the mistakes. I thought you didn't hatch ducklings before? I love the rocking, but the peeping is the best!! But sometimes I get really paranoid and stressed over the peeping because my 4 I lost rocked and peeped, and I couldn't distinguish between the normal peep I'm here, and the peep peep peep, I'm in trouble and I lost them. To find they broke through the airsac but couldn't break the shell because their beaks were crooked.
