Egg-Bound/Blocked up Chicken

I noticed this morning that one of my hens is straining to get something out in the vent area. I’m sure she’s either egg bound or just blocked up in some way. She’s not acting like she’s in distress or in pain, she’s just scratching about the pen as usual. I just need some advice on what I can do to help her pass the egg or whatever it is?

If you suspect an egg may be stuck, give one calcium citrate tablet directly into the beak. Citrate is digested easier and more quickly than other forms, but a Tums will work until you get some calcium citrate.

You can soak her in warm Epsom salt water for 20 min. they say a cup per gallon but i did way less.

that’s what i ended up doing and she was fine. She layed an egg a day or two later and is back to her regular laying schedule now!
