Egg bound chicken/chicken Death (graphic pics)

I would treat chickens with lash eggs with an antibiotic for a bacterial infection. We feed cuttle bone instead of calcium because it dissolves the mess quicker and for some reason doesn’t interfere with producing even more shell. If you have more with egg problems get to the vet and get antibacterial antibiotic and treat them. They can be saved if early enough. I am so sorry for your loss. Learn and carry on. Chickens tend to hide illness until its too late so watchful eyes are needed more. This is not your fault but rest assured this is very treatable for future problems.

I need help. I have a young Bantem Cochin, this morning she came out of the coop very slowly, eyes half closed and no interest in eating or anything else. I took her in the house and soaked her in Epsom salt tried to get her to eat and drink ,it no luck. I put her in a warm area and kept her quiet. She did pass the egg, but she is still very pitiful. She is still very lethargic and doesn't want to move. Now what?

I am very afraid for my poor little hen.
I'm sorry about your little hen :hugs
Was the egg intact when she passed it? Hard shell or soft shell?
Is she able to poop?

If you can, try to get some fluids into her, will she drink on her own?
Since she is lethargic, I wouldn't soak her again, that can send them over the edge, but I would keep her warm. A heating wrapped in a thick towel underneath her will provide a little extra heat.

Her egg was fully formed and a very nice normal egg. I haven't soaked her again, she is in a crate in my bathroom with a heated floor. It is very nice and warm in there. I have a.very small tipped syringe I can try to get some fluids in her. I have some critter care, should I make a slurry and feed her some of that too?

Well I syringe fed her some water and some critical care. Not alot bit some. She is resting and I hope in the morning she will be feeling better.
How is she doing this morning?

To the OP: my sympathies on your loss. It hard even when it’s for the best. Poor girl - that thing was HUGE. It looked kinda like an exotic fruit at first to me - lol!

Great job on the necropsy and pictures! It helps us all and gives a little bit more meaning to her life.

:hugs

She didn't make it. I thought she was going to pull through. I am not as brave to do a necropsy.
I'm so sorry :hugs

Performing your own necropsy is not for everyone. I was hesitant at first myself, but I have a curious/nosy nature, so decided I just had to take a look. I found that it was not too bad and I learned a few things along the way. It's not something I look forward in doing, but when I lose a hen, I still take a look.

Now, if you do want to find out what happened, sending the body to your state lab will give you answers. You would want to refrigerate the body and make arrangement to send it in https://waddl.vetmed.wsu.edu/avian
