Hello. I have a Barred Rock approx. 1yr old that is Egg Bound. I can feel an egg stuck on her left side up under her left leg. Her bottom is swollen softball size..Poor hen...

"Eileen" is drinking and lightly eating. She is a good girl and has always been handled..Making what I have had to do easier.
***This is what I have done so far***
1. I have soaked her 4 times in a warm bath for 30 Min. each time while massaging her abdomen.
2. I have put mineral oil in her Cloaca.(5cc X3)
3. I have orally given her a mixture of olive oil, milk, sugar water, and electrolytes...only about 5cc so, far. It's not easy getting it down her..

Treatment has been going on for 2 days. I am not sure how long she has been bound. I am feeling desperate and not sure what else to do. It's about 115 degrees so, I know she's warm enough..And she does have her own "Sick Area". Thanks.......

You're going to have to try and free that egg. I just recently went through this whole process with someone detail by detail except it was with a banty hen, so if yours is a standard it will be much easier. If you'd like to check it out go HERE to read about it.

The egg cannot be felt by your finger. It is deeper down by the left leg. Your can see the outline of through the skin . It is not palpatable by finger through the cloaca.

Here's a wild swing at idea that may be completely off-base and actually dangerous, but if you run out of options, may be worth a try???
--Maybe as a last resort it would work to break the egg inside her body--by tapping or bumping against the area of her body where you can see the egg--and then it would be able to pass on through her system.
I don't know at all if that would be a good idea, because the egg shell may be tough to break and doing so might instead actually cause some internal injuries, or maybe having some broken egg in her system could lead to infection, or ???
It sounds like you have been using some extremely wise and logical methods thus far. I hope they remedy the problem or someone else's ideas can help remedy it, if not. But just chipping in a radical idea (which may be not such a good one) if you can't find any other solution.
Anyone have knowledge or experience on method I thought of?

Thanks for your help. I have researched all options for several hours and so far nothing is working. I may have to put her down if she doesn't improve soon. I will continue to give her a chance as long as she is eating and drinking. I will also continue to soak and put mineral oil in her vent. I still cant feel an egg with my finger or else I would try and remove it seeing as she will die anyway if it isn't expelled. Wish me luck !!

Help!
My favorite hen had one stuck. I got it out followed by some poo. But she still looks very red and swollen and don't know what else I should do for my poor Pinkie Pie. Should I be worried about infection?
