What’s their maturity like? I’m guessing on the slower end of things?

They reached point of lay at the same time as or earlier than my other breeds from what I can remember.

Would not have expected that! This breed is full of surprises .

6months is pretty standard here. I see it as very healthy for the girls. but 5 months isn’t detrimental either, and it would mean that they won’t miss out on their first breeding season

Well, there goes that plan. Seems like the hatchery (though not exactly, we do not have hatcheries like you do in the US) carrying Turkens has closed down.
Shame, because I was actually quite interested in seeing first hand if they were really that great. I had even warmed up to the neck thing…slightly .

So now as far as breeds go, the options that remain are both types of Araucana, the Dongxiang, Fayoumi, and Aseel (theoretically).
The plan for landrace eggs in the summer is still a go, though I’ve yet to see the birds in person or in photos
