Hello everyone,

I need help please. I have Dutch bantam hen who has been egg bound since yesterday. The first problem I noticed was her uterus is prolapsed. I have felt the egg and I believe it is way too large for her to pass. I have done multiple warm epsom salt baths and large doses of calcium. I have massaged her. I have inserted KY jelly into her vent. I can feel the egg when I insert a glove finger into her vent, but the prolapse is in the way. She is getting very weak. I have read that the egg can be punctured and drained as a last resort, but I cannot get to straight to it due to what feels like the folds of her uterus. Can someone please help me? I am out of ideas. No vets in my area will touch a chicken, they will not prescribe for them either. So I am always on my own in these situations. Please help. Thank you in advance.

Thank you so much for the video and hugs. She finally laid the egg! It was a BIG one! All I know is God brought her through it because I was helpless, all I could do was try to make her comfortable. I had thought about putting her down, but my husband told me to give her more time. I am so glad I listened to him! Thank you for reaching out to me. I love my birds and it breaks my heart when something happens to one of them. I know most everyone here can relate. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and experiences. I have been coming to this site for advice for years, but this was my first post. What a wonderful community!

I'm glad to hear she was able to pass the egg!
Thank you for the update.

Did she lay the egg on her own or did you do anything besides the normal things when they are egg bound? It sounds like my chicken is in the exact situation that the egg is right there, but I cannot find an opening directly to the egg. Thanks.
