My hen has been egg bound for few days, she was egg bound 2 days ago then she was able to pass a very soft shell egg and one with no shell at all but the day after she is back to zero 😢 I gave her a bath yesterday evening and again this morning and applied some oil to lubricate but still didn't see any egg 😢. How long is the max you 'd give her before deciding to put her down? This is my first time with chickens, I don't want to rush any decision.

If left untreated, an egg bound hen will die within 48 hours. Are you sure this is the problem? Egg binding is not too common... was she standing straight up like a penguin, and pumping her tail up and down? Did you feel inside the vent for an egg? I’m going to send you an informative article.

I'm not 100% sure but yes yesterday she was pumping her tail, and she has not been pooping properly since. when she first started acting weird I saw she was having problems laying, eventually she did lay a very soft shell egg and another egg with no shell at all so I thought that maybe she was having troubles laying. today, again she didn't lay anything she is having troubles pooping. I didn't feel the egg in her vent...but I didn't want to go too much in either...I read lots of blogs and articles and it seems she is egg bound :idunno

I waited a day, however this was because my hen ended up not being egg bound. I recommend waiting until she really looks bad. She could pass it any time, or not. Make sure your giving your birds calcium, you can also give this sick bird tums crushed up however mine hate it.

I'm not sure...this is the first time...I was massaging her abdomen but she didn't want me ...
Be careful massaging; you don’t want to break the egg inside of her. I would recommend keeping her somewhere warm and humid in the meantime; you can get creative with warm wet towels or keep her a warm bath with Epsom salt. The tums are a good idea; I simply crush them up and offer them right out of my hand.

Please provide some photos - poop and hen?
Is she able to poop at all?
How old is she?
Is she lethargic, bloated/swollen?
Feel inside her vent about 1-2" for an egg.

She passed a soft shelled egg, then and egg with no shell - does she have egg yolk/albumen leaking from the vent or was the shell less egg intact?
