I have a 11 month old Asian black pullet. All of my girls had stopped laying for about two months and just recently started again. She is much like my RSL that lay just about every day.
On Monday I noticed that there was likely a soft shelled egg or shelless egg laid in the nesting box as it soiled two other eggs. There is a possibility an egg cracked but more likely a weak shell. The girls all seemed fine except for my RSL that has canker (meds are on the way) so I thought nothing of the egg as it happens sometimes.
On Tuesday I noticed my Asian black pullet slow moving, isolating herself, not eating or drinking much at all, pumping her tail while it was pointed down. I instantly thought egg bound and gave her a soak and some tums. I still did a once over and checked her crop, mouth, legs and body for injury etc. Everything checked out fine. Fast forward now to Wednesday morning and she still had not laid and seemed to be getting worse. She would barely walk and laid down basically all day. She would stumble to whatever spot she decided was a good resting spot and basically throw herself down vs slowing sit down (I know being egg bound can really be painful on nerves etc in the legs). I gave her another soak, crushed some tums, vitamin d and magnesium together and mixed in water to be able to syringe it to her. I went out for the 10th time yesterday around 6 to lock everything up and check on her again with my husband and she had laid on egg!! She got up, ate and drank a little, considered roosting but looked so discouraged and just went back and laid herself down. Very clearly still uncomfortable.
I just went out with more olive oil and my vitamin mash for her but I'm just confused. She laid an egg! Shouldn't she be feeling better? Am I missing something?
I'll also add that I started antibiotics not sure if that yolk in the nesting box was hers and caused some sort of infection?
Dont mind some of her messy feathers. Her "sister" pooped on her.
She is now isolated
