Egg bound or broody ?!?confused & need help

Do you have any electrolytes that you can put in the water, NutriDrench to give orally, or pedialyte or Gatorade? Start dipping her beak into the water for a second if she won’t drink when you hold a small cup or scoop up to her beak. Has does her crop feel—empty, full, hard, puffy? Here green poop is from not eating. Offer her some cooked egg if she is drinking. Bring her inside to cool her off.

Just gave her a cool dip in some water and syringed some electrolytes with vitamins in her. I tried the egg earlier but it was tough to get in her beak ,will try again I'm.desperate here I don't feel like I'm doing anything helpful for her

I tried to upload a short video of what she's doing now but it's a bit too big ,I can probably send it though if anyone is interested but now she basically is tilting her head up and opening her beak like she gasping for air . It goes from barely noticeable to her stretching her head up and opening her beak up all the way and making some noise I feel like she is getting worse ...still giving her vitamins/electrolytes in her water with a bit of egg

Just a heads up, I killed a sick chicken by dipping her in cool water on a super hot day. All the healthy girls seemed to do better after the dip, but my sick one started screaming repeatedly (couldn’t breathe) stumbled, flapped and died. It was HORRIBLE and I will never forget it.
I don’t want to scare you, but strongly caution you regarding wetting a sick bird. If you are certain it is only heat related, well that would be another story.

Have you forced fluids? I’m wondering if she has aspirated crop (or other) fluid into her lungs. Do you know where to put the syringe? It goes to the right of the back of the throat. The hole in the center is a straight path to her lungs. If you think she has aspirated, that could explain the gasping and I can try to call in some more experienced folks to help figure out what to do about that.

At least you are trying to help her. Don’t feel awful! Are you pretty sure the syringe went down the middle?

I prefer to hold a scoop of water up to their beaks to sip it them selves, or dip their beaks for a second. She could be gasping also from the fact that she is getting worse. If giving medicine or water with a syringe, it is best to give in the back of the chick’s right side of the throat, avoiding the trachea, the hole in the center of the tongue. I hope she starts to get stronger.

Thanks @Eggcessive. I knew you were already on this thread (and therefore did not tag you). Thoughts on what to do if she has already aspirated? Do you think it could be part of the problem here?

@BreezyBre, can you feel if her abdomen is bloated? Gasping can also be from something pressing on her lungs, like fluid in the coelemic cavity. Fluid would indicate ascites, which could be from a number of different things (reproductive problem, organ failure, infection, cancer). Geez, I feel like I keep posting scary things. I’m sorry. I’m just trying to help you cover all bases.

I appreciate the posts even the scary bits to help us get through this , she feels fine albeit skinny on the outside ,I did manage to get all fluid out but tipping her over a bit but not upside down ( I read that was bad also ) She's breathing better now but she is still pretty bad off I'm surprised she lived through the night . She hasn't eaten so obviously she's incredibly weak still no idea what wrong ..Wondering if some vet rx would at least perk her up enough to get her a jump start to I can feed her ( properly of course ) since she's stopped eating on her own

I know she's just a chicken as most ppl would say and it could totally be something out of my control I can't fix . I have a couple horses here , dogs a cat if I was a rich woman I'd just take her to the vet but I guess I'm just trying make sure I know im doing as much as I can for her on a realistic level .
