I just re-watched the necropsy video posted by speckledhen. If you can't feel an egg within 3 inches of the vent then she isn't egg bound with a fully formed egg. Have you tried giving your girl the crushed Tums in yogurt?

I'm not getting a good feeling about your situation, since your bird is already so skinny and you got the thin yellow-white secretion. It sound like she has been suffering for quite some time. You are probably already at the point of needing to give her antibiotic (Pen G injections, which is cheap, or get some oral Baytril from a vet, which is expensive.)

We came home tonight to find her really secreting the yellow stuff. So I will call the feed store we go to see if they have the antibiotic, if she makes it through the night. I don't have high hopes. The vet across the street from the feed store doesn't see chickens. I think they think I am crazy.

So what exactly was wrong with your chicken?

it does seem like she was an internal layer, although her oviduct didn't look exactly like the other pictures posted on the forum. she had been laying occasional soft shelled eggs for a couple months, then stopped laying anything.

Well, I don't have any tums, but will get some tomorrow and some baby vitamins. And I will call the feed store for antibiotics, too. Right now I am a little encouraged she is drinking milk with a crushed citracal in it. I hope that is okay. She was so tired it was hard to get her to open for the dropper but once she had a taste she went for the little bowl. But with lots of reminders to wake her up to drink in just those few minutes. Her name is Piglet. It was quite the appropriate name for her. She would be the first to my back door if she heard it open- before we built our run.

I posted the vet info, but honestly, for my bird, the vet was very expensive, and seemed to hasten her end. Still, you might want to call Dr. Folland's office just to see what they say.

So I had a neighbor come over to give me her opinion and she was surprised that my Piglet didn't look worse. So we are not giving up yet. Hubby is getting antibiotics and laying mesh or mush. She will still drink milk and I will give her eggs and should I put some extra oil in it?

Her bum is getting really messy now. Yellowy white oozing out like a cooked yolk that is liquefied. She is still laboring and breathing heavy. So we have her on the back porch. She hasn't moved at all. I figure her gut is so full it has to come out somewhere.

I did call the vet you gave me, Steph, but he was not in. They suggested another. So now I have 2 I can call. I spoke with the other and he really couldn't say anything with seeing the bird and lab tests and x-rays. I can't afford that right now. So we are still in this guessing game.

Okay- My future vet daughter is giving her small spoonfuls of Tetracycline. And she stood up to eat the scrambled egg we made for her. And she finally pooped a little, not just runny, oozy, yellowy goop! She seems perkier just tires easy and sits.

Made another egg and sent husband to the store for baby vitamins and tums and plain yogurt.

So we'll just keep going with that and see what happens!

I don't know about Tetracycline for this, but I'm glad she is a bit perkier. My vet said Pen G or Baytril. Of course, it didn't help in the end. It just improved things and then she would relapse.
