I have a 1 year old hen who I just found with a prolapsed vent. She was straining every minute or so and passing a small amount of yellow diarrhea. I picked her up and felt her abdomen, felt a hard mass which feels like an egg. She's in the bath now. I snapped a picture just before I felt her belly.

There is another chicken, a young pullet, who I saw with yellow diarrhea as well. Ruffled feathers and panting, resting in one spot. I thought for a moment the diarrhea was related to the eggbound issue but this other chicken is not yet old enough to lay. I didn't see any other chickens acting off, but I didnt stay long when I felt the egg in my girls belly.

What could I be dealing with here? I don't know of any poultry vets in my area. I live far from town so I can't purchase any meds or supplies until tomorrow.

Please help!!

She's not prolapsed yet. Do you have any calcium Citrate tablets?

Update- she passed the egg a few minutes after getting out of the bath. Thank goodness! I'm still worried about the diarrhea though

Also, I'm assuming it's fine but can I eat the egg?

Calcium Citrate is recommended as it works faster when a hen is having laying issues.
Ok I can run out tomorrow and get some. Now that I'm thinking about it, I found an egg the other day that was very slightly misshapen - it had an area on one side that was slightly concave, like it had been pushed with a thumb. I'm sure now that this hen laid that one.
