Egg bound? Very Swollen abdomen

I know this is an older thread, but I thought I’d add for latecomers like myself. Ascites is often chronic but can be treated by draining the fluid:
. For reproductive issues, look into deslorin hormonal implants for chickens. Certain vets will do this for chickens as long as the bird is not intended for meat or egg production (i.e. beloved pets). It cost $175 for the implant itself plus a $90 exam fee at Crossroads Vet in Bellevue WA to get the implant for my sweet older hen. I realize not everyone can afford the implant, but share in hopes of helping at least one feathered friend. As a layperson and backyard chicken keeper, I find Gail Damero’s “Chicken Health Handbook” indispensable. The book helps you discern what illness(es) may be at play as well as offer solutions, many of which can be accomplished without the help of a vet. Take care!
