Egg boxes

What do your boxes look like? How deep are they? I use stacking bins and don't have any issues.

Excelsior and plastic nest pads both work pretty well.
It would help us help you by providing pictures.

My chickens hate excelsior! They kick it out pronto! too bad bc I have a box full of it. We’ve tried straw and shavings. Both these work ok. We’ve used inexpensive outdoor carpet, also fine, but eventually wears out leaving bare wood.

Currently have an angled nest box, so the eggs roll to a padded back area. However, any bedding present gets in the way and keeps eggs from rolling to the padded area. We are going to re-do the nest boxes to improve a few aspects. At that point, might consider the plastic/washable nest pads.

I’m not sure what bedding you use but I used dry soil as my nest box “bedding” and never had any issues
It’s just shavings that we use for the coop... we have 1 hen from our last set and she has no problems and the others before laid their fine and never did this. But we were watching earlier and it’s our black Australorp doing it. Not any of the others
