So any idea about how long to keep her on antibiotics. My vet said amoxicillin for 5 days but I have more. Tylosin she didn’t give me any length of time. I didn’t give her Tylosin yesterday because I just didn’t have time and today she has been eating some of her feed on her own.

we went on another field trip today she eats a bit when she’s with the flock. Nervous about her being mounted so I’ve been intervening. After we went in she was standing with her eyes half closed which I haven’t seen before. It could be be a use it’s past 5pm or depression from being removed from the flock again or it could just be time….

Any advice on antibiotics? Her poops are still not normal. Is that when you stop antibiotics?

Sometimes when a hen is suffering from reproductive issues that can wax and wane with symptoms. Some days are better than others. Hopefully she'll be able to re-join her flock soon.

Ok I’ll call the vet but she’s been on the Tylosin for way longer than that. I think she should be off everything because she ate better today after a break from the Tylosin.

I’m going to try to get her out more with the other chickens. My house is 60 degrees but she’s in the laundry room which is cooler for sure. It’s cold where I live. She’s been outside a few times last week when it’s been in the high 20s and 30s. I feel like many people recommend reintroducing overnight so they wake up together. I’m nervous about having them together when I’m watching and about the difference in temperature. I’m not sure how to handle these things.

It’s supposed to be colder this week lows around -2 to 10 highs in the 20s.

Genny is still with US. She’s eating and drinking on her own. She is not eating to the point of a full crop like my other hens. She goes out on field trips to the flock. Today was the most successful reintroduction the others were less interested in her. When I first introduced back into the flock everyone was very loud the rooster was fascinated by her and she was getting pecked at. Today everyone was much more calm. I’m afraid to leave her out overnight because it’s been so GD cold here. (Lows in low negatives rarely ever above 10) believe it or not that’s not even THAT cold for where I live but since she still isn’t 100% I just worry.

Her butt is still getting poopy and her poops have not returned to normal. She is off meds for now. I’m considering Baytril to try to get her all the way back. Can anyone advise what they would do?

Also is there any fear of the infection spreading to my other hens via mating with the rooster?

I would get her on some probiotics and see if that helps improve the poop.

Most things would not spread through via the rooster since there's no penetration, just a touching of the vents.

She wasn’t interested in the yogurt I tried to give her. I can try to spoon feed her. Would ACV in her water be a good idea? I’ve seen so many mixed opinions on this.

So I bought Genny some Recover 911 with electrolyte pro and pre biotic and oregano because that’s what I could find at my local farm store. (I’m vegan minus my chickens eggs therefore I don’t really like having excess dairy around esp after she wouldn’t eat the yogurt I got for her) and after two days of that I went back to regular water. I plan on kind of switching back and forth between the two. Anyways yesterday/today she has had more regular poops!!! They’re lighter in color than normal but firm and not yellow/green like they had been as diarrhea.

She is eating veraciously which pleases me because she is still below normal weight. She got a bath today to clean up her bum feathers. Yesterday it was -30 to -25 and only warmed up to -3 but this whole next week starting now it’s supposed to be above 0.

Mission reintroduction is about to get serious and I am very happy about it. I won’t be above cautious optimism before she’s settled in but overall I’m very happy since she had a 48 hour death sentence from the vet.
