Egg Candling! Tips, Tricks, and Best Practices.

I thought maybe it was something in the egg, like a blood spot. Definitely keeping an eye out, & I marked which one it was on my hatch log!

That's very possible. I always candle my eggs before I put them in the incubator and I swear when there is a meat spot of any kind it will end up looking bigger or darker after incubating. I find that meat spot eggs never develop though so based on that and the fact that it's a "stripe" I'm going to assume blood of some kind.

These eggs are so dark and thick shelled can't see anything. The shells are so thick I dropped (not from incubator) and egg in the kitchen and it did not crack.
My Muscovy eggs are like that with a thick shell and hard to break when I go to eat them. You would think the little bird inside of these eggs would have a terrible time trying to get through those shells. I did have to help my Mule Duck out that was half Muscovy and half Mallard when I hatched her out.

I also think it looks perfectly healthy. You can see the chick in there moving and with feathers so it shouldn't be long now. Good luck with the little one. Chicken egg???
Thanks! Yep a small hybrid chicken. My guess is the bio mom laid on a bigger hen's nest, adoptive mom's eggs hatched already and she left the nest

When I saved three of my Ducks, the Mother Duck had left the nest and the eggs were ice cold. They all three hatched and that was how I got my Mule ducks, half Muscovy and half Mallard derived. I only had a styrofoam cooler and a 40 watt bulb shining right on top of them with a cup of water and they hatched. I did not have an incubator and they were far enough along that they made it just fine. You are most welcome and I pray yours makes it too. Please let me know if it does.
