That's a good idea. Bakeries also use lots of eggs. I got mine online at eggcartonsonline.com for about $.35 each. I got the ones that are made from recycled cardboard. They smell funny and I had one person I sell the eggs to notice the smell. But they hold some darn big eggs. I can even close the lid with my double yoke eggs inside there.

They have a 50% surcharge to ship to Hawaii. I don't think that's an option. Kinda sucks for people in Hawaii, well at least they have amazon and local online stores. All other online stores seems to have an expensive shipping charge.

Oh I'm not complaining about living in Hawaii, that's for sure. We have gotten used to items sold here costing more than the mainland, but some stores seem to really go for the kill. Thank goodness for Amazon at times

I know you aren't. I often buy things online, since i do lots of craft projects (Etsy & Ebay & Amazon fan here!!) I would be quite upset at the stores selling though, not Hawaii itself, I mean i don't think shipping to Hawaii cost that much more. I mean 50% surcharge pfft....I honestly don't see how shipping could be that much more expensive.

I wouldn't think that bakeries and restaurants are getting eggs in 12 count cartons.

If you are selling eggs or even just giving them to friends, they should be bringing the cartons back.
Once folks knew I have chickens I had too many offers for cartons and turn most of them down.
I just 'recycle' them amongst the 3-6 customers that I have and occasionally get some fresh ones in from donors.

I'm sure some venues get them in cartons, but by far most commercial establishments get them on flats as that is the way most bulk eggs are sold in the US...

To the OP, if used works for you and if you have a local poultry swap try visiting there and see what is available... The last time I visited the local swap there was a kid with literally a 20+ foot straight truck full of used cartons haggling like a carney for any reasonable offers from people walking by...

I have all the people from work and friends bringing me cartons. You would be surprised how many come in. I sell around 50 dozen eggs a month
