The only drawback with the splitable if you are selling dozens instead of half dozens is that they "split" easily and will do so even when you don't want them to, like carrying them from fridge to counter

. I know....sadly from experience! LOL
Some cartons are made heavier than others and may do better but the plastic splittables that I purchased ended up going to someone that did want to sell only half dozens.

Egg Rookie...your eggs look awesome packaged like that!

Thanks! I made a post to my facebook list and e mailed some folks...and could sell a dozen today. Too bad for me I only have 11 birds...some days 6 eggs some days 9. I am trying to get folks to return the cartons. I got a sheet of tiny labels that says keep the earth green, please return the carton. If they are in good shape I can re-use them. I agree...if they split then I would end up having returned 6 egg count boxes.

I bought some of those round/hexagon clear boxes that hold 6 eggs. So many folks don't use a lot of eggs - so a dozen at a time is too much, but they want the blue/green/brown combination of country eggs. My pullets haven't started laying yet - but I bought a hundred of those boxes - and I already have folks who are eager to pay $3 for a 1/2 dozen of my eggs (with a discount for returning the plastic cartons since they can be cleaned and re-used).

CAROL I had a "team" (my mom, friends, hubby) helping me price these eggs. Really Ill barely break even at 3.50. That is including all feed, bedding, cartons, cards, oyster shell...etc. I wanted to offer a discount if they brought the carton back and my peeps said that makes it just too confusing on pricing. I also said if the folks dont care about what carton they get they can bring in a recycled grocery store carton and get them cheaper. But then my peeps said no way then there is like 4 prices and if they are pushing eggs they dont want to deal with a big ol price list..just a flat 3.50. Im kinda at their mercy too cause Im up too far for putting out signs or people driving to get them. My pushers are in town every day. Kinda complaining here but Im really lucky they are doing it for me (and for free eggs and produce...)

How about just charging 25 to 50 cents more anyway, depending on what it costs you? I wouldn't give a discount because of the time and cost involved and with barely breaking even...but it would help if they'd at least not cause you incur more cost by getting a new carton every time.
I just use store cartons here and have folks that don't even know me give cartons to my customers and they return them with the cartons that they had so I don't ever run out.

I loved the look of the plastic ones when I got them but after they split rather easily I just went back to the styrofoam store cartons.
If I could find some more heavy duty ones, they sure do look better when you have multi colored eggs and present them like you did!
With the way you put a card in and the packaging they are worth the extra $$.
