Egg-citing News! My First Egg!

Yesterday was so egg-citing! My red Sexlink, Sexy, climbed into the laying box and starting bedding things down. Later, when I went to put the girls down for the night, I discovered my first egg.

I thought, "Gee, what's this brown golf ball doing in here?" I was so surprised that I didn't know how to act! I gingerly carried it into the house to show everyone (even my hubby who doesn't eat eggs, but thinks me and my girls are hilarious).

I ate it today--delicious!!

I got my first egg yesterday, too, and I had a similar reaction! I have 3 'decoy' eggs in my nest boxes. I did the usual count...1,2,3,...wait a minute...1,2,3....4! I closed the box lid fast! Then opened it again and said, 'Oh my! There's an egg in there!' It was pretty funny. It's a very small egg, but today's was slightly larger than yesterday's. Now for the OTHER 6 to lay. Enjoy!

oh man, the first egg made me all giddy. I had to tell everyone in a mile radius LOL Im waiting for my second batch of pullets to lay soon, there 18 weeks, and getting red combs and waddles. soon, I would say at least 2 are going to lay.

Yes, it's too cool. My older gals are just about 21-22 weeks. I watched for the signs described by folks here on BYC. Sexy's comb, wattle, and face are really red, and she square when I reach to pet her (she's been doing that for just over a week before). On the day she layed, she did some working out in the laying box, and was quite vocal while there. She did that a few times that day.

Tell us when you find your first one! Sounds like it will be soon

Yeah, my neighbors must think I'm nuts. I talk to my gals when I'm out there, and I know my cheers of glee when I found the egg must have sounded strange. My egg was small, too; the pan it's in is like 6"...bur it was so good!
