Hi,

I’m sure this is going to be a silly question but I’m going to ask anyway. So, the egg below to me looks yellow and not sure which hen it came from. We have Ayam Cemani, a Leghorn, Lavender Orpington and a Speckled Sussex. Just curious.

Thanks

Not silly at all. If you don't know it is silly to not ask.

Breeds are supposed to lay certain colors and shades of eggs. If the person pays attention to that when selecting which hens get to breed and work toward that they can get pretty close to what the color is supposed to be. If egg shell color is not a priority when picking which chickens get to breed the actual egg shell color can vary a lot within a breed. It is risky to try to decide which hen laid which egg due to breed.

A leghorn should lay a white egg so you can discount your leghorn. It is not her. It could come from any of the others.

If that is a pullet's first egg it gets even harder. Usually a pullet's first egg is darker than later eggs will be so that can distort it some. I could see where that could come from any of your other three breeds.
