Egg color

I usually get brown eggs and today an almost white one showed up

Brown eggs are white eggs with brown pigment over the top. So if the pigment doesn't get added, you can get a white egg.

That's interesting. I've had a Columbine since autumn which was supposed to be a blue egg layer. However two broken white eggs appeared under the perches and I thought I'd been diddled. A few weeks ago she started laying pale blue eggs and I was puzzled over who actually laid the white eggs. Now I realise it was her all along.
