egg color

What color are guinea eggs? I have 6 laying hens and a guinea (and a banty roo). I am trying to figure out if my guinea is laying of not. I get 5-6 eggs regularly from their pen. They all look like light brown chicken eggs. Do guinea eggs look different?

Sounds just like the guniea eggs I have been getting! They are light brown and smaller than the chickens!

So there's no way to tell the difference between my light brown chicken eggs and a light brown guinea egg? I would like to put a few eggs in the incubator. I don't care if I have mutt chickens, but I don't want one of those freaky looking guinea/chicken crosses. I saw pics somewhere here on BYC and they were creepy looking.

Will guineas lay in the nestbox? I do have one bird that lays a slightly smaller egg, I'd consider it medium sized, but I thought it was a chicken egg.

Our Guinea eggs are large pored, meaning if you candle them, they have black dots like periods on them. They are tan like many of our other eggs, but shorter, and more broad on the large end.

yeah, my guniea eggs are quite a bit smaller, and they are pointier (I'm not sure if that's evenb a word!!)
It was easy to spot once I had one, I was a little nervous that I wouldn't know which eggs were which, but you can tell. Mine are housed with chickens too, but I'm not real worried about a cross, the gunieas are so WILD and seem to only annoy my rooster!! I can't imagine him doing anything but chasing them away from the hens!!

Thanks Chik. I only have the one crazy guinea. And she (I think she's a she... LOL if I'm worrying about eggs and she's a HE!) has 2 favorite chickens... My light brahma hen and the banty roo. She hides behind him whenever we come in the pen.

Maybe I'll just hold off on the incubating until I can tell for sure which are the guinea eggs. DH came home today with 6 new babies (bad timing- but hey, he's feeding my addiction!) so I should be good on my chick fix for a while.

Good luck, I am going to put whatever guniea eggs I have in the incubator on Monday with some chicken eggs that I ordered. So far we're at 5, she has been laying one a day like clock work.
Someone told me when I was scared that I wouldn't know guniea from chicken that I would know the difference when I seen it, you will. It sounds crazy but you will see the difference. Take care!
