Egg colour changed

I have a hen who for a whole season laid brown eggs with heavy bloom. At first they were a darker brown with bloom that made it look purple which lightened to this egg before she stopped for the winter (AUS here). I witnessed her lay these multiple times


Fast forwards to today and she laid this!! I know it was her as she was moulting and broke a blood feather on her neck which resulted in other pecking then isolation in her own coop where this was laid, I wet it and it didnt change


Has anyone seen such a drastic change in egg colour before? Could stress have caused it? I was expecting a nice darker egg after a break, not lighter

Egg color can vary during a laying cycle, but generally it is darker at the start of the cycle. Stress, isolation, molting could all be factors in the lighter color.

Will the age of a chicken change the colour of her eggs as I have two that have gone from nice brown eggs to this year laying white eggs. I have 7 Black Star that all lay brown eggs and 5 Rangers that did all lay brown but I keep getting 2 white eggs. I was under the impression that egg colour didn't change year on year for hens once they start laying.
