Hi everyone,
A couple of my hens were showing signs of a respiratory infection in January so I treated the whole flock (6) with Tylosin tartrate (5 grams per gallon of drinking water for 7 days). Some might know this as the brand name Tylan. The last day of treatment was February 29th, so it has been about 11 days since they stopped receiving the medicated water.
I don’t sell my eggs. I use them for my own consumption, for making tempera paints and for giving to family members occasionally. I’ll also be bringing some in for an Easter egg project at the school I teach at next month.
My question is, how long do I need to wait before the Tylosin is cleared from my hens’ systems? I know there’s a waiting period before the eggs should be consumed, but exactly how long is it? And what’s the reason for this? Are the traces of Tylosin found in eggs dangerous for people to consume? Or is it more of an issue for organic farmers who sell their eggs? I especially want to make sure I’m in the clear to use the eggs for the Easter egg project with students at work.
Thanks in advance!

The eggs are safe—there is no egg withdrawal with oral tylosin.
Hmm interesting...I keep reading conflicting info on this. I also read that I should wait 14 days after treating with oral Tylosin. Maybe others will weigh in.
Thanks!
