Collecting eggs today I got one that most literally had a patch on it. The odd thing is the patch is calcium deposits not layered like most internal egg repairs and is barely even attached to the rest of the shell. The egg its self including the membrane was fine. I didn't take a picture but the patch broke loose with the slightest touch. Oh and too and bottom are 2 different colors but I wasn't worried about that. I'm not sure the age of the hen that layed this I suspect one of the 2 year old cinnamon queens based on the shape but it could be from one of my 4 year olds or one of the new close to laying pullets... everyone is off thier laying game with this heat and smoke.

Right? It's like the craziest thing. I've seen plenty of crack repairs but I think this is my first hole repair

Ok now i'm looking for help. I just got a second egg same as the one posted above send I've had 1 or 2 similar with a hole in the same spot. Same sort of 2 tone color expect this one has white spotting. Based on the prior egg I know this one should be fine except that the patch creates an air leak in the shell.

I'm thinking it's one of my older layers as the newer girls are just starting and I don't recall if any where laying when the first egg was laid.

Ok so I lost 2 of the oldest brown layers since I first posted, 1 was a broody mama at the time and I think she just started laughing again this past week. That leave a 2-3 year old barred rock that I haven't actually seen lay in months or 1 of the cinnamon queens that are just a little over a year. I think the color is darker then the bard laid in the past but i'm not really sure. I'm thinking my might have to set up the game Camara in the coop to see who is laying when for a few days. Which would also help to confirm which of the pullets are now laying.
