My hens are not yet laying, but my neighbor has very productive hens - too many eggs, so has been able to donate them to the local food pantry. My expectation is that I may end up with too many eggs and might need to donate them on occasion. If we donate the eggs, I wanted to know if I can add this to my deductions when I file my taxes. I looked this up, but I can't easily find information on donating food and value of the eggs on the IRS site, and some other sources I found were older. Maybe I'm not using the right terms/ search vocabulary. Anyone with experience with this or can point me to the right place for information. Thx.

I too donate extra eggs to the food bank, I just dont worry with tax stuff,,,,

OK, but I am still looking for further information. At this point, I have nothing to donate, as the hens are not yet laying. When I donate, then I would like to have the right information available.

Are you set up as a business? I am no taxspert, but I think you would need to go that route. Keeping all records of expenses and prophets.

I believe any donations to charities are tax deductible.
That's what my tax preparer told me, do you have one?
If you don't get a receipt from the charity
(ask the charity, they will know)
just list what you think is the value,
and take pics of items donated(was clothing in my case) to keep in your records.
Keep records photo and or text.

ETA: Don't rely on the internet for legal advice tho ;)
