So I bought 5 chickens last wednesday. 1 roo and 4 hens. Delawares. I had to put them in a pen together cause they need to be quarantined. However the hens are laying. twice now the eggs got eaten. The first time my dau was collecting two and they attacked one. I think it was the roo. Today she found and egg eaten. At this time there were only 2 hens and the roo. I moved 2 hens cause it was a bit crowded.
Any chance the lady sold me this roo cause he is an egg eater?
He really a nice looking roo and treats the girls well.
Also one of the "hens" doesn't have the markings on it's back like the other three and I think it's a roo. How old would a Delaware be before he crowed?
I've now moved 3 hens in a seperate pen, for room and cause I don't know if it's the roo who is eating the eggs.
So now I have the definite "I won't shut up roo" and the possible younger roo together. Or is it just cause there is no nest box and the eggs are laid on the floor of the pen?
If I hatch the eggs he fathers is there a chance his sons will be egg eaters? I gotta get a camera and post pics.
