egg eating

I have this happening right now all of a sudden. We just moved the girls into the new coop on Saturday and Sunday they started eating their eggs. I see them running around the yard playing keep away with the shells. It's maddening!

I have never had this problem before and nothing has changed except their living space. It's bigger and better now, lol. They have oyster shells, treats, layer pellets, scratch etc. I'm going to try the golf balls first then move down the list. Thanks for the ideas!

Mine seem to only eat the jelly eggs. I think it's because someone steps on it and it breaks, then everybody swarms for the yummy treat... It seems like they haven't figured out that the hard ones hold the same thing. If they do... I'll be on the market for some new hens!!!

seems like the only way to sure way to get more eggs than they do, is to build a nest box with a sloped floor and a raised back wall for the egg to roll behind. Member opa sent me some photos and they gave me good ideas to modify my nest box. Its been two weeks now and ive lost only two eggs. One cracked when it hit the back wall that wasnt padded. The other one didnt roll completely behind the wall. Both issues were corrected. This is so cool !! I cant wait to see how many eggs roll behind the wall. I tried the golf ball thing but that didnt stop them from eating the eggs. So far this is the ticket. Good luck and thanks for all your responses!!

I'm glad you found a solution. You've got some stubborn chickens.

I still look for eaten eggs when I go out to the coop, haven't found one in months.

Imp- think I won too.
