Egg Full of Blood

Thank you everyone for the responses! It was just one egg (so far). We are definitely keeping an eye on all of them for a bit.

Hopefully this will be a once off and they'll lay normal eggs from now on. I'd get a fright if I got an egg like that! I worry if I get a little blood ON the egg LOL

I got one egg like that once last spring. I think it was from some fighting/bumping. I had introduced new birds earlier that week and I had a few eggs with blood spots till things settled down. Only the one egg that was filled with blood though. Never happened again so I am pretty sure it was from an internal bleed due to them fighting at night (they have plenty of room during the day to get away from each other). Once the pecking order was established the eggs stopped having any blood. I wouldn't worry if no other eggs show up like it. If you start getting more though either something is scaring them when your not there or they are fighting would be my first guesses.

I got several eggs like that from new hens 2 years ago. Never saw one like it in the previous 17 years of chicken raising. After a month or two of finding one here and there, it seemed to go away. I just figured it was a hen that took a while to get it right.

I have had this happen when pullets are starting out. I was told it is common in pullets until they get the system right. I have only seen one in all the years I have had chickens. As long as it is not still going on I would not worry about it.

That would seriously freak me out.

I know that doesn't really contribute to the conversation or help any, but OMIGOSH.
