No, I love all of the questions. Gives me more to go on. Yes, the egg was half way under the hen when I took notice to it being cracked in half. And was a hen sitting on the remaining shell?
Sorry for all the questions.
Phew! Was the inside of the shell wet? And what about the wood shavings, were those wet?No, I love all of the questions. Gives me more to go on. Yes, the egg was half way under the hen when I took notice to it being cracked in half.
Because they are silkies they do not go up to the top. They nest in the bottom shelf. the egg (that was under a hen) was not even on the shelf, the hen and the egg were nesting on the shavings on the floor in front of the shelf. Also, the shelf on the sides have wood to prevent anything from going behind the shelf.Thank you!
Could the chick have fallen? Which shelf was the egg remains on?
Shavings not wet. Egg was wet!!Phew! Was the inside of the shell wet? And what about the wood shavings, were those wet?
You got some smart girls there!Because they are silkies they do not go up to the top. Alright, were there any blood veins visible? That would be a big indicator if it were fertile.Shavings not wet. Egg was wet!!
I checked all of the hens and there is nothing under them other than eggs.I think it would be pretty clear if they killed the chick.
Are you sure the chick is missing? Is it hiding under one of the hens maybe?
