Egg hoarding button!!

I've only had a few that went broody (I usually take the eggs pretty quickly), but most of them had both the male and female sitting on the eggs. Not this time though, at least not that I've seen.

are her eggs always brown? mine japanese/coturnixes always laid white speckled ones and suddenly laid a brown one yesterday! pretty suprising!

anyways... nawww that quail is so cute!!!! pretty amusing to see her hoarding 6 eggs!

Buttons (Chinese Blue Breasted) quail usually do have brown or dark green eggs with dark brown spots. Coturnix (Japanese) quail usually have white with brown spots eggs. I've had coturnix lay white eggs, brown eggs, green eggs, and 'normal' eggs. I usually get brown with spots or green with spots eggs from my buttons but occasionally get a 'blue' egg.

We have cots that like you, will lay an odd colored egg from Time to time. My son who is almost 4 likes to help me collect the eggs...one day we found one with no spots and his instant reply, "Daddy, I think her paint factory is broken." While holding and examining the egg...only out of mouths of kids!

Oh !! How precious!! Yes, only out of the mouths of kids!

When my son was about the same age, we were camping for the first time, and he's in the tent eating a doughnut, and we hear all of sudden... Ouch, my mouth bit me! We laughed till we had tears, our sides hurt and about rolled down the hill into the lake!
He had bit his finger!

Whats with the 'X' On the eggs??

Only from mouths of kids

The "X" is to know the egg has been turned.

A lot of us mark them with an "X" on one side , and an "O" on the other, so we can keep track of when they've been turned and how far to turn them.

When I hand turn them, it would get turned so the "O" face's up the next turn would be the "X" faces up.
