Egg in an egg

i Got busy and didn’t get to look at the nest, since it was close to hach time I didn’t want to bother her.
Yesterday pm there was one hatched and dry.
Today, this PM I had an uhoh, the door was open and the hen was out of the nest in another one.
One was pipping, 3 had hatched and were still wet,1 looked crushed and didn’t make it. 2 hadn’t hatched and one egg appeared crushed.
Then I realized the nest box I had her in has a lip that is too tall for a chick to get back in if it fell out.
So I made a mad rush to swap out the box and transplant everything to the nest and put the hen back in her cage.
Hopefully they didn’t get too cold or didn’t hurt them by me moving them.

I'm sure you moving them didn't hurt them and if they got a little chilly they're nice and warm again now! I hope the rest of your hatch goes smoothly!

Here are the survivors
Only one did not hatch 3 others appeared to get crushed 2 didn’t make alway out of hatch process

Congrats on the sweet peeps!
Depends on your hen and the size of the eggs. When you see the hen struggle to keep all of the eggs underneath her and they roll out, there are too many.

Ok, she is a larger hen and I gave her 11 eggs (or 12 if the wife was sober)
She had no issues at all covering them.

It just appeared that 3 of them had been crushed as they were fully hatched and dry.

Aww, I'm sorry! It probably wasn't the number of eggs in this case sometimes accidents just happen. This actually happened with one of my broodies for the first time. She accidentally squished one of her new babies because she was still in pancake mode trying to cover eggs but pressing too hard on babies. She's a proven brod of mine too. She wasn't even a newbie at it.
