Good morning lovely chicken friends! 🥰Have a question: my new olive Egger hen decided to go broody. I’ve never had a broody hen before, so of course I looked up on the forum how to break this and I think I did it successfully. Her normal egg laying pattern since I’ve had her has been five days on one day off, five days on and so forth. Then quite suddenly she started laying an egg every day and when she had laid 13 days in a row she decided that she wanted to try to hatch the ceramic eggs in the nest box.
She also made the sweetest little trilling/cooing noises. I was onto her when she tried to sleep in the nest box overnight. After less than 24 hours in the metal dog crate without touching the ground she seems to be over it. So my question is how long is it normally before she will start laying again? It is day 3 today. No real hurry from our side but just curious how long it normally takes. Thank you so much for any input! 😊

I believe when I broke a broody mama it took her 1-2 weeks to start laying again.

Hens that set a clutch, raise a brood of chicks, wean them at 5 or 6 weeks go as much as 8 to 10 weeks without laying. Hens whose broodiness is 'broken' generally start laying sooner than that. It will vary greatly from hen to hen.
Thanks for your helpful response!😊
Guess will have to wait and see.

Assuming you're located in the northern hemisphere, she may or may not resume laying this year, as her broodiness also coincides with decreasing daylight hours.
Good point 🤦🏻‍♀️ I didn’t even think of that and all of mine have stopped laying.

Oh that note though, I have a broody mama who has five week old chicks and I did wonder (hope) she could surprise me by laying after she’s done with her chicks, since she’s gone so long without laying. 🤷🏻‍♀️

She'll probably molt after she weans the chicks.
